Synopsis

Set in 1928 in Progreso, the Yucatan Peninsula Port in Southern Mexico; a twelve year old son of a Mayan dock worker falls in love with his school teacher and aims for a future different than the one that is expected for him. She is a free-thinking woman who releieves him of his virginity and encourages his ambitions. However, when she is driven out of town for being a seductress, Eliseo ends up in a conventional marriage to Lupita, the daughter of his father's boss. Years later, the teacher returns to the town and the buried tensions in the town resurface.
