Synopsis

In rural China, Shiwa's father spins a spoon to determine which of his two children should attend school, which remain on the farm. Shiwa wins, his sister loses, and he begins the treacherous daily journey across a river to the school house. Later, Shiwa is faced with the decision to leave the village to continue his education or stay at home.
