Synopsis

Moliere and his best friend and fellow actor, Gros-Rene, witness Marquise dancing for a rough crowd, inspiring Gros-Rene to propose marriage and promise her a Parisian theatrical debut. It is seventeenth century France and this self-assured beauty with the fat comic seem an odd couple. In fact, Marquise sleeps around with many famous names yet still adores Gros-Rene. Racine is next to be smitten by Marquise and writes "Andromaque" for her. With Louis XIV ban on Moliere's "Tartuffe," Racine and Marquise get their big break, a move that solidifies his reputation but takes its toll on her.
