Synopsis
Set on a small Icelandic island in 1913, a wedding party is disrupted by a storm that causes a ship to sink offshore. The revellers save many of the ship's crew, but one dies. The island elders demand that the wedding festivities be stopped out of respect, a decision that angers the bride, who is from the mainland and does not have such old-fashioned beliefs. With the party stopped, the revellers find other outlets, many of them less salubrious, and the bride discovers an attachment to Ivar, who is not the man she just married.
