Synopsis
The Shakespearean tragedy "King Lear" is recast in terms of gypsy folklore as a story about the misadventures of a grumpy old Gypsy who attempts to settle his accounts once he learns that he is dying. His odyssey begins when the government relocates a Gypsy village and he is forced to leave his residence. His eldest daughters, between whom he has already divided all of his money, welcome him to their home with open arms. However, when his larger-than-life presence begins to irk their husbands, he begins to long for a reunion with his youngest daughter whom he disowned many years ago for being as stubborn and proud as he is. With scant information and failing health, he journeys to Budapest to find her before it's too late.
