Synopsis
In May of 1991, Soviet cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev took off for the Soviet Space Station. During his absence from Earth, the armed coup of August 1991 takes place in Moscow, and Krikalev is forced to stay in space for almost an entire year. When he returns, the Soviet Union no longer exists, and he lands as a Russian citizen.

The film was directed by Andrei Ujica from the Space Command Center on earth, with much of the footage shot by cosmonauts themselves. In addition to this incredible never-before-seen material are breathtaking sequences achieved by sending the 35mm camera into space, producing the first cinema of the cosmos. The camera, along with some dailies, burned up on re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere.
