Synopsis
He Jiansheng lies dying in a hospital as the story of his life unfolds. Raised on classical music during the 1950's, he just misses out on pursuing a concert career thanks to the turmoil of the Cultural Revolution when Western music was outlawed. He puts all his energies into teaching a young prodigy, but his obsession with music causes the love of his life to leave him and later, his wife to move to the United States.
