Synopsis
The story of a Jewish girl from a shtetl in the Pale of Settlement who must accept the degrading yellow ticket of a prostitute in order to live in St. Petersburg to study medicine. Studying by day and night, she is hailed at the university as the brightest student, but--horror of horrors!--her nightmare activities are discovered by a fellow student with whom she is in love.
