Synopsis
Set in the Argentine Pampas during the 1930s, a tale of revenge against sexual oppression and domineering patriarchy which centers around the trials of an alluring adolescent peasant-girl, Paula, who is forced into marrying Antenor, a single, wealthy landlord, obsessed with having a son--although she's in love with one of his workers. Having no choice, the poor girl consents, and a loveless marriage of convenience follows. As fate and irony would have it, Antenor, becomes paralyzed and, unable to speak, is left totally dependent on his wife for his physical needs. Gradually, Paula takes advantage of the situation, and even begins to enjoy her new authority...
