Synopsis

Every September the Leichhardt Council elects its mayor. Incumbent Larry Hand is popular with the general public, but they don't vote for the mayor -- the twelve councillors do -- and after three years of Larry some of them are after his job. Granted extraordinary access to the councillors' public and private lives, the filmmakers follow "His Worship" in his Machiavellian schemes to retain power and several equally committed pretenders to the throne as they engage in violent arguments, walkouts, backstabbing, and double-crossing in the hopes of gaining enough votes to win. Policy discussions are nowhere to be found here; to the exclusion of seemingly everything else, the councillors are interested only in the often personal -- and often hilarious -- business of getting elected.
