American filmmaker Michael Mann attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison and later received his M.A. from the London Film School in 1967. Mann worked in England for an ad agency and as director of documentary films and commercials from 1965-72. He marked his feature directorial debut with "Thief" (USA/1981).
