Synopsis
Having been wooed by job offers and encouraged into starting a new life in the States with his semi-talented love interest named Zhuzhu, an anxious-ridden, no-getter goldfish-seller Lixin, en routr to San Francisco, suddenly backs out of the plan; too embarrassed to return to their respective homes, the couple is forced to fake their own departure. Thusly, Lixin and Zhuzhu must perpetuate the lie to both families and friends who are expecting to hear periodic updates on their successful emigration to the States. The duo do so by setting up cheap digs in a rougher part of Beijing and sending fake letters home.
