Synopsis
Poet Clemens falls for much younger Auguste, the teenage daughter of a banker. When she reveals her love, Auguste is cut off by her family and the couple determine to live a poetic life. Soon, Clemens tires of her immaturity and vivaciousness, but finds he cannot live without her. She inhabits the role of tragic heroine, and attempts suicide, slowly giving in to madness.
