Synopsis
In the 1940s, Junction City, MO was thriving, with a black culture that performers like Billie Holliday and Dizzie Gillespie came to be part of. But by the late 1960s, it is run down, with poverty, homelssness and crime endemic. Charactes such as winos Bebo and Huddie bemoan these changes, while prostitute Carrie Mae tries to get herself off the streets. But the only black-owned businesses that are thriving are those of gambling, pool and the local gangsters.
