Synopsis
Matt, a 19-year-old white guy, moves from the Midwest to Los Angeles to become an artist. As he has little money, he chooses the cheapest possible apartment and lands up in South Central. With no car, he is stuck in his neighborhood, and his only recreation is a weekly trip to the laundromat where he meets Evelyn. Black, 38-years-old and with an extended family to look after, she has little in common with Matt and is initally suspicious. However, the two become friends and begin a serious dialogue on race and racism in America. Much of the story takes place within the laundromat, but the outside world breaks in with the outbreak of the LA riots of 1992.
