Synopsis

Five hundred years before the arrival of Columbus in the Americas, the Vikings, holding an Irish slave named Kilian, become lost in the North Atlantic. They land on the coast of New England where Kilian escapes with the ship's navigating device needed by the Vikings to return home. In his flight to freedom, Kilian encounters Native Americans who rescue him and become his friends. The tribal hero, Contacook, becomes a brother, the Kitchi, becomes his teacher and the Indian girl, Turtle, becomes his first love.

The film's screenplay is based on an encounter in the New World described in ancient Viking texts such as "Saga of Eric the Red" and Native American folklore and mythology.

Second feature for Boston College art history professor and filmmaker Pamela Berger who marked her feature directorial debut with "The Imported Bridegroom" (USA/1989). Berger also wrote and produced Suzanne Schiffman's directorial debut "Sorceress" (France/1987).
