Canadian writer Jane Rule's lesbian-themed novel "The Heart of the Desert," published in 1964, was adapted for the screen as "Desert Hearts" (USA/1985), directed by Donna Deitch. Documentarian Aerlyn Weissman's previous work includes "Forbidden Love: The Unashamed Stories of Lesbian Lives" (Canada/1992).
