Synopsis
Two stories, both drawn from the filmmaker's own experiences, are intercut. In 1937, a 13-year-old Tbilisi girl is sent to a state orphanage after her parents are arrested. She escapes and returns to her old apartment, now occupied by a KGB officer. In the other story, the wife of an "enemy of the people" is sentenced to a prison camp in Siberia. But the camp is full, and she joins other female prisoners on a trek through the icy wilderness looking for shelter.
