Synopsis
Meg Kelton, an attractive young newlywed, is attacked by the janitor in her apartment building. Attempting to drive him away, she inadvertently kills him and, panic stricken, flees to New York City. There Meg becomes involved with a man who is kind when he is sober, but brutal when he gets drunk. She leaves him, and moves in with Della. Her newfound friend makes lesbian advances, and Meg flees again. She rents a room in the home of a married couple, but the husband molests her as she lies sleeping, and once again she is forced to leave. In desperation, Meg takes a job as a companion to a semi-invalid woman. One day, she learns that her employer's son is a detective at work on a murder case. He recognizes Meg from a police photo and accuses her of the murder. She begins to scream, until at last her husband awakens her from her terrible nightmare. When he leaves, Meg goes to the incinerator. She is attacked by the janitor, and screams with the realization that her dream is coming true.
