The Monster and the Girl

A fire on board a ship results in the loss of all lives except that of a small boy who is adopted by a kindly fisherman. Ten years later, a lawyer tries to claim the lad, who has inherited a fortune. The fisherman fights the lawyer and wins custody of the boy, thus placing the fortune in trust with a banker. Meanwhile, the boy has fallen in love with the fisherman's daughter, but, although she returns his love, she elopes with the suave banker who has stolen the boy's fortune. During a rooftop fight with criminal associates whom he has hired to rob his own bank, the banker plunges to his death. The boy and the girl then resume their idyllic seaside life.
