Synopsis

Three American thieves--Jack, Maggie, and Frank--arrive in Naples with plans to rob the Church of San Gennaro of 7 billion lire worth of jewels, gold, and trinkets. Needing inside help, they seek the advice of an old convict who recommends Dudu, a local petty thief. At first shocked by the idea of stealing from the city's patron saint, Dudu finally agrees to help Jack and Maggie (Frank has since died from overeating), he decides to use the money from the jewels to carry out a beautification plan for Naples. After the robbery, however, Maggie kills Jack and prepares to leave for the United States with the loot. She disguises herself as a nun, but Dudu and his buddy Sciascillo stop her at the airport and abscond with the treasure. Dudu has arranged for a fake cardinal to drive him to the Swiss border where he can sell the jewels, but the cardinal turns out to be genuine and returns the treasure to the church.
