Synopsis

Dr. Carl Rogers and Dr. Richard Farson conduct a group therapy session during which eight "normally adjusted" persons reach new levels of self-awareness through personal interaction. The participants include three businessmen, a theology student, a teacher, a school principal, and an office cashier. Attention is focused primarily on four of them: the housewife who can express affection only to her cat; a Eurasian woman who, while she perpetuates a "China doll" image, resents it and longs to be called a "broad"; the executive whose defensive belief that he does not need others masks a fear of rejection; and a black woman whose desire to comfort others is thwarted by the fear that she will be rejected because of her color.
