Synopsis

A gang of bandits led by Colonel Brinkley ambush a stagecoach in Arkansas, murder Fred Engel's father, and steal his half of a treasure map. Old Shatterhand, a legendary hero who uses a special rifle that shoots silver bullets, and his Apache blood brother Winnetou set out, along with Fred Engel, to catch the murderers. Fred tells them that the map pinpoints the location of a fortune in gold at Silver Lake. The trio head for the farm owned by Engel's partner, Patterson, to retrieve the other half of the map, but the bandits attack, kidnap Fred's girl friend Ellen Patterson, and force Fred to lead the gang to Silver Lake. When Old Shatterhand and Winnetou are attacked by a band of hostile Indians, Winnetou converts them into allies, and they reach Silver Lake just as Brinkley is preparing to hang Fred and torture Ellen. Old Shatterhand's silver bullet cuts the noose around Fred's neck, Brinkley is killed when he falls through a trap, and the Indians help capture the rest of the gang.
