Synopsis
Although residents of Kentucky, the members of the Castleton family are all Union sympathizers. One day, Sallie Castleton, on her way to a Yankee camp with hospital supplies, meets Johnnie, a Confederate officer who courteously permits her to proceed to her destination. When her brother James is wounded and taken prisoner-of-war, Sallie is allowed into the enemy's camp to nurse him, and it is here that she falls in love with Johnnie. This enrages Major Rushton, Sallie's former suitor and a Union spy. Determined to break up Sallie's romance, Rushton sends Johnnie a note, presumably from Sallie, asking him to meet her. When Johnnie arrives for their rendezvous, he is captured, and after evidence is planted upon him, condemned to death. Sallie learns of his perilous situation and goes to Rushton's headquarters where she diverts his attention by flirting with him. While Rushton is preoccupied, Johnnie escapes, and shortly thereafter, when the hostilities cease, Johnnie and Sallie settle down to a peaceful life together.
