Synopsis

When her fiancé Rob Benson goes off to fight at the outbreak of World War I, Jane asks David Holden, the lighthouse keeper, to take her and her baby in. Ignoring the disapproving townspeople, David agrees, because he has been alone since his wife, with their child, deserted him years before. Then, one night, the English fishing village is bombed by German airplanes, and the lighthouse is destroyed. To save British ships, David sets fire to his own home and lets it do the work of the lighthouse. The first ship to come through carries wounded soldiers, one of whom is Rob, who marries Jane immediately. Then, after the ceremony, while looking at some old photographs, Jane and David discover that they are really father and daughter.
