Synopsis

According to rumor, artist Harry Lang and his old sweetheart Isabella are lovers, even though she married the wealthier Alfred Zanden. To allay the gossip, Alfred and Isabella visit Harry's studio to have her portrait painted. Influenced by the devil, an elegant gentleman who has appeared in the room, Harry and Isabella pass the time in fond remembrance of their romance, and when Alfred returns, he finds that the painting has not yet been begun. Isabella had originally hoped that her friend Elsa would marry the artist, but now, fully under the devil's power, she writes Harry that she will leave Alfred and come to him. The following morning, Elsa arrives at the studio just as Milli, Harry's model and mistress, is venting her jealousy, and the two angrily abandon Harry. As Harry and Isabella retire to the studio, the devil laughs gloomily and later meets the two lovers in hell.
