Synopsis

An attempt to translate Einstein's Theory of Relativity into nonscientific terms with the use of illustrations. By using simple parallels from everyday life, the theory regarding the relativity of time, space, and distance is explained. One illustration demonstrates that if a man aboard a ship walks toward the stern at the same speed the ship is moving away from the shore, the man is standing still in relation to the shore but moving backward in relation to the boat. The fourth dimension and the bending of light rays are briefly touched upon.
