Synopsis

Malatroff, head of an international gang of jewel thieves, pressures Lucy Stavrin to pose as a countess and become friendly with the Corbetts, a nouveau-riche American couple residing on the Costa Azul. Lucy is to switch a valuable pearl necklace which the Corbetts have just acquired, accompanied by much publicity, for a false one. Flattered by the attention of a countess, the Corbetts regard her visit as a great honor and invite her to stay indefinitely. When Lucy is about to commit the robbery, the enigmatic Albert D'Arlons, who was a neighbor and fervent admirer of hers in Paris, shows up, drawn to Nice by the publicity surrounding the necklace. After realizing that they are both in the same "business," Lucy and Albert decide to abandon their criminal pasts and begin a new life together. However, Malatroff has been watching them, and in order to extricate themselves from the situation, they are forced to kill him. Although the local police inspector has doubts about the veracity of their tale, after receiving favorable testimony from the Corbetts, he declares the case against Lucy and Albert closed and congratulates them for having rid the world of a dangerous criminal.

Notes

Amor audaz is a Spanish-language version of the 1930 film Slightly Scarlet, which was directed by Louis Gasnier and starred Clive Brook and Evelyn Brent. A French-language version was also made, see the record for L'enigmatique Monsieur Parkes. Some sources suggest that Slightly Scarlet was based on the play Blackbirds (New York, 6 January 1913) by Harry James Smith, which was adapted as a motion picture in 1915 and 1920.
