Synopsis

When Richard Jenison is slain, his wrongly suspected grandson David seeks refuge as a clown in a traveling circus, where he quickly becomes the favorite of circus owner Mrs. Braddock and her daughter Christine. Ernie Cronk, a hunchback, is jealous of David, even though David saves his life, and informs the police that David will be appearing that afternoon in a clown costume. Ernie's brother Dick assumes David's place in the circus, then later, in an attempt to exonerate his friend, visits Jenison Hall. There Dick discovers that David's uncle, Frank Jenison, killed his own father. David proposes to Christine, but Mr. and Mrs. Braddock feel that the lovers are too young and they ask David to wait five years. In David's absence, many problems beset the Braddocks, including near financial ruin and Braddock's conviction for the attempted murder of the crooked Colonel Grand. In the end, with the aid of his friend Dick, Braddock is restored to his family and David and Christine are reunited in the circus ring.
