Synopsis

Takla, a white orphan brought up and kept captive in a Himalayan monastery, is rescued by Althestan, an adventurous Englishman who falls in love with her. His sister, displeased with her brother's choice, arranges to have Takla kidnaped. Althestan searches for her and eventually finds her with a troupe of itinerant Muslim entertainers.

According to Variety (9 November 1927) Alfred Raboch began the film with Lynn Shores as his assistant. Then Lynn Shores became director, and Alfred Raboch became his assistant. Finally, Fred Niblo took over, finished the film, and received sole screen credit. Press sheet credits Ura Mita and Clarissa Selwynne with roles of Tana and Isabel, while trade reviews credit Ann Schaeffer and Martha Mattox. As part of the first Academy Awards, cinematographer George Barnes received a certificate of honorable mention, in part for this work on this film and for his work on The Magic Flame and Sadie Thompson (see below).
