Synopsis

In ancient Egypt, two cousins, Prince Sabaku and Prince Ramsisu, become rivals for the hand of a beautiful village girl named Akis. Unknown to them, however, she has fallen in love with the young Amosi, the court physician and one of Ramsisu's close friends. Amosi is forced to accompany his friend back to Thebes when Ramsisu's father, the ruling pharaoh, dies. Akis, mistakenly thinking herself abandoned by Amosi, agrees to become Sabaku's bride. Ramsisu is crowned pharaoh, and the jealous Sabaku declares himself pharaoh of lower Egypt, therby precipitating a war. The two armies meet and clash at dawn in the desert. Sabaku is killed, his army defeated, and Akis is taken as a slave by Ramsisu. During the long homeward trek to Thebes, Amosi manages to free Akis and the two escape into the desert. But Ramsisu captures them, chains them together, and leaves them to die. Fortunately, a merchant caravan passes by and saves them.
