Synopsis

Bert Tulliver, the star pitcher of a smalltown baseball team, gets a chance to try out for the Green Sox and immediately arouses the animosity of McRae, the league's home-run king. Bert falls in love with Mary Post, the daughter of the club's owner, and further angers McRae, who considers Mary to be his girl. McRae is hired by another major league team and does not meet Bert again until the World Series, when they are on opposing teams. In the first game, Bert, who has come to believe that McRae has the jinx on him, walks McRae and is pulled from the game. In the final and deciding game of the series, Bert must face McRae again and, bolstered by Mary's love, he strikes him out, winning the series for the Green Sox and assuring himself of Mary's love.
