Synopsis
The history of Guinea Bissau from the onset of the war of independence from Portugal in 1963 to the present. Four years after Diminga and her lover are separated by the struggle for independence, Sako returns, wounded in battle. As the nation suffers through drought, famine and political division, Diminga and a crowd pray for rain and celebrate both the dead and the living.
