Synopsis

Laurence, younger son of the Mannerbys, while intoxicated, forges his mother's name to a £50 check to pay off "Smooth Bill" Carser, a gambler. Jacqueline Boggs, a young American visiting the Mannerbys, falls in love with Donald, who marries her in an effort to solve the family's financial difficulties; but his sense of honor prevents his using her money. Donald partially reimburses Carser, however, under an agreement whereby Laurence will not leave the jurisdiction of British courts. Determined to reform Laurence, Jacqueline persuades him to go to her father's American ranch, whereupon Carser tells Jacqueline that Donald married her for her wealth and receives a payment for the breach of the agreement. In America, Donald becomes a strong admirer of Mr. Boggs, and through the latter's effort husband and wife are happily reunited.
