Synopsis

Released from prison after a three year term, "Swagger" Barlow visits his old pal "Red" Dugan. Because of his pal's serious illness which requires prompt medical attention, "Swagger" forgoes his determination to go straight. After burglarizing a house to provide his friend with funds, Swagger dodges a suspicious detective by slipping into the Ritz Hotel lobby where he is mistaken for Lord Birmingham. Deciding to play along with the deception, Swagger is accepted as the nobleman, and at a soirée he meets Peggy Winton. Later, Swagger discovers that the lord has been kidnapped by the notorious crook Joe Klingsby, who intends to impersonate the nobleman for his own nefarious reasons. Swagger goes to the lord's rescue and changes places with him. Peggy is puzzled at the change in her sweetheart, and later that night Klingsby appears with a police officer, planning to expose Swagger. The officer recognizes Swagger, but arrests Klingsby instead. Swagger bids farewell to Peggy and promises to go straight, encouraged by the look in her eye.
