Synopsis

The Countess Elnora, disappointed in love, leaves the decadent European playgrounds and comes to the United States to stay with her cousin, Sam Poore, who lives in a small midwestern town. Her extraordinary appearance and exotic manner set off the town gossips, and various slanders soon reach the ears of Richard Granger, the reforming and virtuous district attorney. He orders her out of town, and she refuses. At a church bazaar, Granger castigates the countess, and she horsewhips him. Granger takes the lashes in good grace, and the countess realizes that he must be in love with her. She drops the whip, and they are quickly in each other's arms, exchanging proposals and acceptances.
