Synopsis

As a lobbyist for the unscrupulous Senator Barring, Mary Dexter perfects a method of promising romance in return for votes. Her first victim is Congressman Drake, who ruins his career when he votes solely to please her. Then she goes after Robert Moorehead, convincing him to be absent during the vote on a child labor bill which he supports and Barring opposes. When Mary realizes, however, that she has fallen in love with Robert, she implores him to come to Congress to speak in favor of the bill just before the vote. Robert agrees and the bill is passed, after which Drake, looking for revenge, shoots Mary, and then dies from a fall off a balcony in the House of Representatives. Her wound is not serious, though, and Mary is able to celebrate, with Robert, the passage of the bill.
