Synopsis

Freshly expelled from one school, John Humperdink Stover, known as "The Dink," travels via stage to his next school, the Lawrenceville Academy. To pass the time, The Dink boasts to the driver of his exploits, unaware that the elderly gentleman seated behind him is "The Roman," professor of Latin at Lawrenceville. Dink's first year at the school is filled with many escapades, including losing his house baseball game, inventing a system which turns the entire class into brilliant scholars, being an easy mark for the schoolboy pranks of the Tennessee Shad and Doc MacNooder and falling in love with the Roman's daughter Laura. At the end of the year, the Dink finally earns the Roman's respect when, forced to pass an exam before joining the football team, he turns in a blank paper rather than compromise his honor by cheating. The Roman passes the Dink, who wins the game by a touchdown, becoming the hero of Lawrenceville and Laura.

Notes

Various reviews credit either Robert Gordon or Miriam Comer with the role of the Tennessee Shad. Most contemporary reviews credit the film's production to the Jesse Lasky Photoplay Co., but this is probably an error.
