Synopsis

John, an Italian musician, comes to America and settles in a small Italian enclave where he courts and marries Rosa, a beautiful widow, thus incurring the enmity of Big Frank, Rosa's former suitor. John's peaceful demeanor antagonizes his hot-tempered wife, and frequent quarrels result, but their mutual love for Rosa's little daughter usually reconciles the pair. When the circus comes to town, Big Frank stabs and kills the tent man and hides in the woods. In the ruckus a lion escapes, and Rosa's little daughter, frightened by the sight of the beast, is injured in a fall. Roused by his wife's taunts of cowardice, John joins the hunt for the lion. Rosa, repenting her outburst of temper, goes in search of her husband and is attacked by Frank who runs off when a priest appears. Meanwhile John sees the lion enter a shack at the foot of a hill. Frank, seeking refuge, enters the shack and is attacked by the lion. From the ridge above, John loosens a huge rock which falls upon the shack, killing the lion and Frank. Rosa then proclaims her husband a hero, and all their differences are reconciled.
