Synopsis

Alice O'Brien and Grace Flandreau begin their African journey by traveling up the Congo River to Stanleyville. Wishing to visit the Mangbetous on the other side of the Iture forest, they continue by automobile through the jungle, then by foot safari. Later they join safaris with the veteran explorer Ben Burbridge and head for elephant country, where special notice is taken of an experiment by the Belgian Government in domesticating elephants for farming. Returning to the Congo River via the Aruwimi River, the boats capsize, but the party persists on foot across East Africa to Lake Tanganyika and Mombasa (Kenya).
