Synopsis

After visiting Paris, wealthy egotist Jean Jacques Barbille, on his voyage homeward to Quebec, falls in love with Carmen Dolores, traveling with her father, Sebastian, a Spanish adventurer, and they are married. As their daughter, Zoe, grows up, Barbille unintentionally neglects Carmen, and she is about to elope with George Masson when he discovers their plan. He spares Masson, realizing that he himself is partly to blame; and Carmen leaves for Montreal where she becomes a chorus girl. Zoe, against her father's will, marries Gerard Fynes and goes west with him. Barbille is ruined by a fire in his mill, but later he is happily reunited with his wife and child in Montreal.
