Synopsis

Dora Belton's father flees the hounding of his father, an influential foreign official, by coming to the United States where he supports his infant daughter by playing the violin. One day, he is kidnapped, taken back to his native country, and his daughter is deposited at an orphanage. She is registered as "unknown 274," and her only possession is an old violin of her father's. Sixteen years later, Mme. Gordon, a popular Broadway modiste, visits the orphanage and adopts Dora. Planning to sell the girl to a millionaire to reap the benefit of her investment, Mme. Gordon decides to educate the girl, taking her to an old music teacher. The old man is actually her father, who fails to recognize his now grown up baby. Later, the rich young man whom Dora was to entice really falls in love with her and rescues her from her predicament. When the old musician recognizes his old violin and regains his daughter, all ends happily.
