Synopsis

Severely stricken during a cholera epidemic, Count Fabiano Romani lies dying in his Naples home. Eager to free herself, Juliet, his wife, conspires with Arturo, her lover, to bury the count while he is still alive. Though entombed, Fabiano recovers and escapes and then plots his revenge. Disguised as a rich family friend, Fabiano ingratiates himself with his unsuspecting wife and eventually secures a marriage promise from her. Furious at the rejection, Arturo challenges Fabiano to a duel, but before he can fire a shot, Fabiano reveals his identity and slays him. Still ignorant of his disguise, Juliet marries Fabiano and then begs him to take her to the treasure of family jewels she believes will be hers. After leading her into a dark tomb, Fabiano unveils his secret and in spite of her pleas for forgiveness, locks the door and leaves his unfaithful wife to die.
