Synopsis

Ira Nutcombe, an eccentric American millionaire, is so grateful to Lord Dawlish for curing him of slicing at golf that he leaves his entire fortune to the Englishman. Lord Dawlish, an honorable man, resolves to return half of the fortune to Nutcombe's niece Elizabeth and nephew Nutty, the rightful heirs, and sets sail for America to meet them. In America, Lord Dawley, using his family name of Chalmers, meets Nutty Nutcombe, who learns his real identity and invites the lord home to meet his sister. At first resenting their visitor, Elizabeth gradually becomes very fond of him until Nutty tells her that he is really Lord Dawlish, and she sends him away in a hurry. When she finds the letter he has left turning over to her the entire fortune of her uncle, Elizabeth hurries after him and agrees to accept the gift on the condition that he marry her. The bargain is sealed as Dawling accepts her terms.

Notes

Wodehouse's novel originally appeared in The Saturday Evening Post. This film was the first in Essanay's strategy to produce "Ultra Features" at various times, regardless of the fixed program.
