Synopsis

During the invasion of Italy in World War II, two American soldiers, Charles Delmont and Joe Senken, desert the Army and travel to Naples, where they set up a black market operation and are soon given the opportunity to join a lucrative narcotics smuggling syndicate. Charles becomes depressed about his former cowardice and finds in an encounter with Sherry, a prostitute, that he is impotent. Joe decides that Charles has become a liability, and Charles flees to Rome to escape threats on his life from the syndicate. There he meets and falls in love with Annette, who helps him overcome his impotence. He finally obtains a new passport and returns with Annette to Naples, but here he is trapped by assassins hired by the syndicate. He escapes, but in the meantime, believing that Charles has been murdered, Joe seduces Annette with a contrived story. Charles returns home, finds them in bed, and beats up Joe. Annette and Charles resume their relationship.
