Synopsis

Bert Manerube interests Lige Melberne in a scheme to capture a herd of wild horses by running them into a barbwire corral. Chane Weymer, a trail rider, realizes that this procedure will maim or kill most of the horses and convinces Melberne to change his plans. Manerube then joins up with the McPherson gang and persuades them to uses the barbwire trap. The men stampede the wild horses toward the wire, and Chane rides out in front of them, leading the horses away from the corral. McPherson is killed by an Indian seeking revenge for the death of his daughter. Chane weds Sue.

Zane Grey's novel was first published as a serial in Country Gentleman magazine, beginning on April 19, 1924. Paramount filmed another version of Zane Grey's novel Wild Horse Mesa in 1932, directed by Henry Hathaway and starring Randolph Scott and Sally Blane. RKO produced a third adaptation in 1947, directed by Wallace A. Grissell and starring Tim Holt (son of Jack Holt) and Nan Leslie (see AFI Catalog of Feature Films, 1931-40 and 1941-50 ).
