Synopsis

An employment agent convinces Helen Martin that she may obtain a job as a musician in the town of Salinas, but when she arrives at the Blue Bell dance hall, the other women, with the exception of the kind Mae Garcon, only laugh at her expectations. When one of the Blue Bell's roughest patrons, Chick Ward, gets fresh with Helen, she slaps him, and he promptly falls in love with her. Steve Barton holds up a stagecoach, killing the passengers, but the evidence points to Chick, who, to make things worse, is forced to shoot Steve's partner in self-defense. Helen loses faith in Chick, but Mae defends him, and later a dying man confesses that it was Steve who committed the crime. His name cleared, Chick marries Helen, and they adopt the child whom the stagecoach killings had left an orphan.
