Synopsis

Martin Grey offers Joan Ludlow the protection of his name in a companionate marriage; and their life together is a round of dances and dinners. Joan tells Martin, in answer to an unspoken plea in his eyes, that she is still just a kid. At the home of Mrs. Hosack, a social freelancer, Joan meets Gilbert Palgrave, a man whose lack of morals is well covered by his perfect manners. Joan and Palgrave become constant if platonic companions, and Martin spends a few innocent days at home with some friends. Joan returns home with Palgrave to find another woman in her living room, and she suspects the innocent Martin of the worst. Martin goes to his club, and Palgrave attacks Joan. Martin returns and rescues her from a fate worse than death, and Joan tells Martin that all is well between them and that she loves him only.
