Synopsis
Embittered because Bill O'Shaughnessy has cast her aside for Mary Moran, Kate Taylor takes up with derelict Frank Coswell. Meanwhile Kate's twin sister Lou arrives and insists upon moving in with Kate. When Bill returns to retrieve his belongings, Lou overhears Kate quarreling with him, and after he leaves, she taunts her sister. The two women quarrel and Kate knocks Lou unconscious and flees, thinking that she is dead. The neighbors find the body and, believing it to be Kate, blame the murder on Bill, who was last seen with the victim. Bill is arrested and convicted of the crime, and Kate, reading of his conviction, exacts her revenge by going West with Coswell. Soon after, Coswell also is arrested for murder and placed in the cell next to Bill's. He tells Bill that Kate is still alive but refuses to tell the warden until the day of his execution when he provides the prison chaplain with her address. The chaplain vows to save Bill's life and goes West in quest of the woman while Mary petitions the governor for a thirty-day stay of execution. On the final day the chaplain finds Kate, but when he telephones the warden he discovers that he is too late, as Bill was executed before his innocence could be proved.
