Synopsis

A gang of outlaws goes unchecked by the law and terrorizes ranches and towns just across the Texas border in Oklahoma. Marshals Bill Boyd and Art Davis are sent undercover to investigate the situation, and arrest the suspected gang leader, Vic Landreau, but their secret agent who had previously infiltrated the gang is murdered. They bring Kurt, a suspect, to the sheriff in the saloon, but when he shows no interest in making an arrest, Bill strikes him, and a brawl ensues. Bill is arrested, but Art is left free and meets with their partner, Lee Powell. When Lee demands that the sheriff release Bill into his custody, he reveals that he is after Landreau, but the sheriff pretends not to know of him. When the three marshals are next in the saloon, Lee confronts Landreau, who pretends to be his own cousin, and the sheriff refuses to aid their arrest, as they need him to take a prisoner to the state line. Saloon owner Mort Slade then orders his men to run the marshals out of town. When Lee meets with the ranchers, they agree to help him determine who is the kingpin of the operation. Soon, a mysterious vigilante group kidnaps Kurt and demands information about the identity of the murderer, but Kurt refuses to speak, and is found the next day strung up, but alive. After Bill flirts with Slade's daughter Linda, she leads him into a trap and he is taken hostage by Slade's gang. The vigilante group, which is secretly operated by the marshals, then kidnaps the sheriff and questions him about why he does not arrest all the known criminals in his town. Although the sheriff is set free, Lee hopes that he is now frightened. Slade and the sheriff agree to put Kurt temporarily in jail to fool the vigilantes. Lee and Art are alarmed after Bill does not return from his horse ride with Linda, and, assuming that she knows his whereabouts, allow her to overhear them announce that Bill has escaped. As they hoped she would, Linda leaves to find out why Bill's captors let him slip through their grasp, and Art follows her to the hiding place. Art signals Bill through a window and manages to untie his ropes. Bill then picks a fight with his captors, and the two marshals tieup the gang. When Lee puts up wanted posters in Slade's saloon, Slade calls him into his office. Their talk turns into a confrontation and Lee realizes that Slade is the kingpin. Bill and Art return to the saloon in time to help Lee drag a beaten Slade into the main room. After taking the sheriff's badge, the marshals arrest the outlaws and leave for their Texas home.
